Brown selected as 2005 legislator of
year by police, sheriffs group
OLYMPIA – The state’s sheriffs and police officers
have the back of Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown,
D-Spokane.
The Washington Council of Police & Sheriffs (WACOPS)
yesterday honored Brown with its 2005 Legislator of the Year
Award.
Asked why WACOPS chose Brown, Lee Reaves, the
organization’s governmental affairs director, called Brown a
“class act.”
“Sen. Brown has always been an advocate for public
safety. Her door is always open, and she’s very realistic
about what she can and cannot accomplish,” Reaves said.
“And, she’s a Gonzaga fan, so that’s personally a huge thing
for me,” he joked.
Brown teased back.
“I guess I know who to call if I get into any trouble
with the law.”
WACOPS is a professional organization that has protected
the rights and quality of life of sworn law enforcement
officers before the state Legislature for more than 35
years. With some 4,700 members, WACOPS represents more than
80 percent of all sworn police officers and deputy sheriffs
in the state.
“Public safety is constantly on the minds of our
constituents,” Brown said. “I applaud the work that WACOPS
has done, and will continue to do, to keep the citizenry of
Washington feeling secure and protected,” Brown said.
