Jan. 17, 2006 Haugen urges constituents
to voice their concerns in 2006 legislative session
OLYMPIA – Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen, D-Camano
Island, today urged constituents to check to see if
their needs are being represented in the 60-day legislative
session that began Jan. 9.
“I consider it a privilege to represent the 10th
District,” she said, “and to do that well, I need to know
people’s concerns. I invite everyone to let me know what’s
on their minds, loud and clear.”
Constituents may contact Haugen through her Senate office
at (360) 786-7618 or
haugen.marymargaret@leg.wa.gov, and can
subscribe to
a range of committee lists to keep track of specific
issues or areas of interest.
In addition, Haugen provides updates throughout the
legislative session in a periodic electronic newsletter. To
subscribe to the e-newsletter, go online to:

Haugen has proposed numerous bills this session,
including legislation to create a military housing
exemption, help land owners comply with the Growth
Management Act and repeal a tax on beds in nursing homes.
Senate Bill 6336, the housing exemption for military
members, prevents food stamp applicants from being turned
down if they also receive housing assistance.
SB 6367 encourages counties and cities to educate and
assist property owners whose existing or nonconforming land
uses may be out of compliance with the Growth Management
Act, as opposed to simply penalizing them for being out of
compliance.
SB 6368 repeals the state tax on nursing home beds.
To handle the increased workload of the legislative
session, Haugen has been assigned additional staff to assist
executive legislative assistant Nova Gattman: session aide
Bryce Yadon and policy intern Heidi Laursen. Also, Rick
Manugian has replaced Haugen’s previous public information
officer.
