Washington principals honor McAuliffe’s
commitment to schools
OLYMPIA – A group representing Washington’s public
and private school principals is honoring Sen. Rosemary
McAuliffe, D-Bothell, with its annual President’s Award
for her leadership on education issues.
McAuliffe accepted the award during the Association of
Washington School Principals (AWSP) fall conference in
Vancouver last week.
“AWSP represents some of the most energized, passionate,
and committed education leaders in our state, so to receive
this recognition is humbling,” McAuliffe said. “They have
been steadfast partners in the effort to build a world-class
education system in Washington that meets the needs of every
student.”
The
AWSP President’s Award is presented annually to an
individual who has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to
K-12 education. AWSP past President Paula Quinn, principal
of Lydia Hawk Elementary School in the North Thurston school
district, said she selected McAuliffe based on her
involvement and dedication to education as chairperson of
the Senate Early Learning, K-12 & Higher Education
Committee.
“I was honored to present this award to Senator
McAuliffe, who has been unwavering in her support of public
education,” Quinn said. “Senator McAuliffe has been
instrumental in orchestrating key discussions about
graduation requirements and state standards, and throughout
it all, has always championed what’s best for students. AWSP
is proud to honor her work publicly through this award.”
