Education
funding will require more work in Legislature
The Legislature made record investments in K-12 education
over the past two years. Our 2005–07 operating budget
represented an 11 percent increase over the previous one.
The construction budget we passed last session was the
largest ever. But we still hear that they weren’t enough.
Let’s talk about it.

Eide honored by advocates fighting domestic
violence
OLYMPIA – Far too often, when a woman makes a phone call
in South King County, it’s to report that she and her children are
being abused. Many victims seek assistance from the Domestic Abuse
Women’s Network (DAWN), an agency with a 25-year history of helping
survivors of domestic violence. And DAWN relies on the support and
commitment of key state legislators to pass bills that help victims.

Anderson times three at the Senate
OLYMPIA – On the Capitol campus, the deep-red jackets are
unmistakable: They signal that the wearer is one of several dozen
Senate pages who serve weeklong stints. That three with the name of
“Anderson” are paging in the same week isn’t remarkable. But when
those three are siblings — triplets — it’s something special.

Here comes the
sun — but don’t lose the umbrella
After all the rain, isn’t it wonderful to finally see the
sun? It’s great, too, that after a long spell of declining
revenues and budget cutting, state revenues are beginning to
blossom.

Puget Sound Business Journal Op-Ed
Helping micro enterprises brings macro benefits
If small businesses are the engines that drive our economy, they
must be powered by V8s. With most of the state’s work force employed
by small businesses, they are a powerful and often overlooked
sector. more>>>

Today a shadow, tomorrow a trailblazer
OLYMPIA – Today he’s a shadow, but don’t be surprised if
soon others are following his lead. Anthony Hogan, a freshman at
Todd Beamer High School, asked Sen. Tracey J. Eide, D-Federal Way,
if he could follow her for a day in Olympia. She had sponsored his
paging stint last session. Still smitten with the legislative bug,
Anthony asked to return for a more in-depth view of the Senate.
