Senate passes consumer protection bills
OLYMPIA – Interest rates may be down, but interest in
mortgages is on the rise. The region’s hot housing market has led to
increasing concern about mortgage brokers and lending practices.
That prompted the Senate to unanimously pass proposals intended to
bolster consumer confidence.

passengers
OLYMPIA – Blindness would be added to the list of
disabilities that qualify for special parking privileges under a
measure approved today by the Senate.

Fairley’s pro-business legislation approved by
Senate
OLYMPIA – Washington’s small businesses got a boost today
as the Senate unanimously approved legislation to encourage
entrepreneurship. Senate Bill 6168 promotes economic
development by eliminating obsolete laws and streamlining current
rules and regulations.

Job security for state employees who volunteer
OLYMPIA – State employees who serve our country by joining
the Peace Corps, or other humanitarian program, shouldn’t be
penalized by loss of employment when they return. That’s why the
Senate today passed Senate Bill 6010, which guarantees that
state workers will have a job waiting for them at home.

OLYMPIA – When Michael Heppler moved to Eastern Washington
from the Bay Area, he hoped his dog wash business, U-Shampooch,
would prosper. But after three and a half years, he just wasn’t
making it. When he filed for bankruptcy, his wife left him, and he
found himself sleeping on his nephew’s couch.
