Democrat: Term expires January 2009.

Elective and Appointed Offices: State Senate, 1993 to present; House of Representatives, 1982-1992; past Stanwood School Board member, three terms.

Legislative Leadership and Committees: Senate Transportation Committee, chairman; National Conference of State Legislatures Transportation Committee, immediate past chair; Joint Transportation Committee, co-chairman; member of the Municipal Research Council, Northwest Emergency Management Response Coordinating Group, Snohomish, Island & Skagit Higher Education Needs Assessment Local Advisory Committee, Special License Plate Review Board.

Community and Professional Memberships: Camano Island Chamber of Commerce, League of Women Voters, United Methodist Church, Utsalady Ladies Aid, Eastern Star; past member of the Stanwood School Board.

Awards: 2006 Puget Sound Chapter of the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) Recognition of Achievement Award; 2005 North Sound Leadership Award from the "Farmhouse Gang" -- the North Sound Connecting Communities Project; Associated of General Contractors of Washington 2005 Legislator of the Year; Washington Association Housing and Services for the Aging 2006 Legislator of the Year.

Personal: Sen. Haugen is married to Basil Badley, and is a lifetime resident of Camano Island.
