Additional information on gambling legislation
There have been many calls, e-mails and letters
wanting clarification on Senate Bill 6613, the legislation
clarifying that gambling on the Internet is illegal. The issues
driving this bill are complex, and further complicated because they
involve not only state and federal laws, but international trade
agreements, too. Trying to summarize these interrelationships in a
Web page posting is difficult. The following information expands
upon my May 25 Web page e-newsletter on gambling.

Another important cutoff for 2006 Legislative session is fast
approaching in this second year of the 2005 - 06 biennium. We are
working on a supplemental budget and much has been made of the
"surplus." This is only a word and all figures are speculative - not
money in hand. We share the nationwide challenge of making up for
what the Federal government is taking away. The Legislature is
considering a wide variety of bills to boost our state’s economy and
quality of life in a fiscally sound manner.
