Eide’s persistence pays off with simple majority
OLYMPIA – After 14 years, the Legislature passed a
companion to the resolution by Sen. Tracey J. Eide,
D-Federal Way, to place a measure on the ballot to amend the
state constitution allowing school levies to be approved by
a simple majority, or 50 percent plus one vote, instead of
the current 60 percent supermajority.

another way, six individuals each hour reported an assault by a

OLYMPIA – Responding to a public fed up with having cars
stolen, Sen. Tracey J. Eide, D-Federal Way, sponsored
Senate Bill 5038 to give law enforcement officers better tools
to fight the crime of auto theft. The House companion measure
unanimously passed the Senate on April 4.

Ninth time’s the charm?
OLYMPIA – She’s been at it since 1999. Sen. Tracey J.
Eide, D-Federal Way, has championed safer roads and freeways
since she began serving in the upper chamber. Her bill to restrict
the use of hand-held cell phones by drivers passed the Senate last
night 29-18, with two senators excused. In previous years, the
measure has come successfully out of the Senate and stalled in the
House of Representatives.

Sometimes it’s easy. Last year, we passed a bill giving health-care
benefits to the families of police officers and firefighters who die
in the line of duty. That legislation went to the governor without a

Eide accepts appointments to two
education-related boards
OLYMPIA – A longtime champion of public education, Sen.
Tracey J. Eide, D-Federal Way, has been appointed to the board
of directors of two local organizations serving youth. She will join
the newly organized advisory board of the Federal Way Education &
Communities in Schools Foundation. That group creates and supports
programs that increase opportunities for children, youth and adults
in the community. more>>>
