Franklin joined others to “energize the
West”
OLYMPIA – Sen. Rosa Franklin, D-Tacoma,
joined state legislators from the 13 Western states at the
annual meeting for the Council of State Governments-WEST
(CSG-WEST) on Sept. 16–19 in Jackson, Wyoming. The
meeting, whose theme was “Energizing the West,” was hosted
by the Wyoming Legislature.
“I met with my geographic peers to explore issues of
mutual concern,” Franklin said. “Although there are
differences among us, we are all concerned about education,
health care, energy policy and a number of other issues
affecting our region.”
A number of topics important to Western states were
covered, including U.S. energy supply and demand; economic
and demographic trends; health care coverage and costs; and
water and public lands usage.
Several notables addressed the gathering, including
National Park Service Director Mary Bomar, Democratic
pollster Celinda Lake and award-winning columnist David
Broder.
The nonpartisan, non-profit CSG-WEST is now in its
60th year of service to Western lawmakers. Its annual
meetings are rotated among the Western states.
