Sen. Kauffman to confirm sister’s
appointment to EWU Board of Trustees
OLYMPIA – This week on the Senate floor, Sen.
Claudia Kauffman, D-Kent, will help confirm her sister’s
gubernatorial appointment to the Board of Trustees of
Eastern Washington
University.
Kauffman, first elected in 2006, is the first American
Indian woman to serve in the Washington Senate. Her sister,
Jo Ann Kauffman, is the chief executive of Kauffman &
Associates, and received a gubernatorial appointment to
serve on the Board of Trustees. Both women are members of
the Nez Perce tribe and were born and raised in the Pacific
Northwest.
“My five sisters and I were taught from a very young age
the importance of education, and of giving back to our
community. Jo Ann was here last month when I was sworn in as
state senator, and I am so happy to be part of her
appointment to the Board of Trustees,” said Kauffman.
Trustees of Eastern Washington University work with the
university president to set strategic direction for EWU,
serve as advocates for the university, and help ensure that
the university is academically and financially accountable
and successful.
The Senate will convene at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, to
consider gubernatorial appointments, including Jo Ann
Kauffman’s appointment to the Board of Trustees.
