Marr arrives in Olympia with ambitious
agenda for Spokane
OLYMPIA — Some might consider Monday’s swearing-in
ceremony the culmination of Sen. Chris Marr’s
hard-fought campaign to win election to the Senate. But
Marr, D-Spokane, sees it as just the beginning of efforts to
improve life in the 6th Legislative District.
And
as the new vice chairman of the Senate Transportation
Committee, Marr said funding for Spokane’s north-south
freeway tops his list of priorities.
“This isn’t just a transportation issue, it’s an economic
issue,” Marr said. “For Spokane to move forward, the freeway
must move forward.”
Marr wants to make sure the freeway’s construction is
funded through completion and that the work can withstand
the scrutiny and accountability required for major
transportation projects.
Marr also hopes to change some of the dynamics of
majority party rule under which Democrats dominate the state
but Republicans have tended to dominate Eastern Washington.
“If I can help bring both sides together, everyone will
benefit,” he said. “We’ll produce better legislation and
we’ll accomplish more, not just in Eastern Washington but
across the state.”
Marr also serves on the Senate Health & Long-Term Care
Committee, the Senate Human Services & Corrections Committee
and the Senate Water, Energy & Telecommunications Committee.
