Rockefeller announced chair of Senate
Water, Energy & Telecommunications Committee
OLYMPIA — Sen. Phil Rockefeller, D-Kitsap
County, has been selected to lead the Water, Energy &
Telecommunications (WET) Committee by the Washington State
Senate Democratic Caucus.
Sen. Ed Murray, D-Seattle, was named to serve as
vice chair. Rockefeller’s selection follows the resignation
of previous chair Sen. Erik Poulsen, D-Seattle.
Poulsen has resigned from the Legislature.
“It is an honor to have been given this responsibility.
Our committee has a very broad role developing state policy
in the areas of water law, Puget Sound recovery, air
quality, traditional and alternative energy sources and
telecommunications,” said Rockefeller. “At the top of the
list of priorities in the year ahead we will be addressing
the impact of climate change while doing all we can to
reduce green house gas emissions.”
Rockefeller was prime sponsor of
Senate Bill 5372, which created the
Puget Sound
Partnership. This pivotal measure grew from the
recommendation of an advisory body created in 2005 that
worked for a year to develop a strategy to protect and
restore the health of Puget Sound by 2020.
