Sen. Tom sworn in as 2007 legislative session kicks off

OLYMPIASen. Rodney Tom, D-Bellevue, yesterday pledged to continue working on behalf of the 48th Legislative District as he was sworn into office as state senator.

“I will continue working to bring good jobs to our region by making Washington the most business-friendly state in the nation,” Tom said. “I’ll also continue to represent the priorities of our community by focusing on education, transportation, meaningful health care reform and protection of our environment.

“This session in particular we have the opportunity to make a real difference in education. I attended public school, my children attend public schools, and I want to make sure that every child in Washington has access to a world-class education that prepares them for the jobs of the future.”

Tom will serve as vice chair of the Early Learning & K-12 Education Committee, and as vice chair of the Judiciary Committee. He will also serve on the Consumer Protection & Housing and Ways & Means committees. Tom served two terms in the House of Representatives before defeating Republican Sen. Luke Esser. His district includes Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Medina and Clyde Hill.
