Sen. Tom sworn in as 2007 legislative
session kicks off
OLYMPIA – Sen. Rodney Tom, D-Bellevue,
yesterday pledged to continue working on behalf of the 48th
Legislative District as he was sworn into office as state
senator.
“I will continue working to bring good jobs to our region
by making Washington the most business-friendly state in the
nation,” Tom said. “I’ll also continue to represent the
priorities of our community by focusing on education,
transportation, meaningful health care reform and protection
of our environment.
“This session in particular we have the opportunity to
make a real difference in education. I attended public
school, my children attend public schools, and I want to
make sure that every child in Washington has access to a
world-class education that prepares them for the jobs of the
future.”
Tom will serve as vice chair of the Early Learning & K-12
Education Committee, and as vice chair of the Judiciary
Committee. He will also serve on the Consumer Protection &
Housing and Ways & Means committees. Tom served two terms in
the House of Representatives before defeating Republican
Sen. Luke Esser. His district includes Bellevue, Redmond,
Kirkland, Medina and Clyde Hill.
Tom also announced that his office is accepting
applications for the Senate Page Program. Applicants must be
at least 14 years of age, but not yet reached their 17th
