Hargrove honored as “Champion for Children”
OLYMPIA — One of the state’s most respected child
advocacy groups has recognized Sen. Jim Hargrove,
D-Hoquiam, for his commitment to improving the state’s
foster care system and supporting children and families
during the 2008 legislative session.
Children’s Alliance Executive Director Paola Maranan says
Hargrove’s contributions had a big impact.
“Senator Hargrove was one of the strongest voices for
children in foster care this year. His work in the 2008
legislative session will give thousands of foster kids
greater opportunities to grow up healthy and have a stronger
foundation for their path to adulthood,” Maranan said.
Eight thousand children are in the state’s foster care
system. Children’s Alliance credits Hargrove with helping
secure funding for health and education screens and sibling
visits for foster children.
“As a father I know how important it is to provide
children with a safe, stable home,” Hargrove said. “Many
kids don’t have that support so it’s crucial that we create
a foster care system that gives these children the love and
care they need and provide them with every opportunity to
succeed.”
Since 1995, Hargrove has maintained a leadership role on
the Senate Human Services and Corrections Committee either
as chair or ranking member. He has worked tirelessly over
the years to improve the lives of children and families.
