What we are doing about jobs
Talent and Workforce
Our goal is to train unemployed workers to fill the current job openings and retain workers to maximize economic growth and stay competitive.
A 21st century economy must attract the top talent from around the world. Washington’s leading firms have long recruited employees from across the country and overseas. Washington has one of the best-educated populations in the country, in large part because we import people with college degrees and high skill levels. But currently 60,000 jobs are unfilled in Washington State due to a shortage of skilled workers.
Senate Democrats propose:
- Expanding Aerospace training;
- Implementing some of the actions in the Aerospace Competitiveness Study for the 737 MAX; (SB 5973/SB 5974/SB 5975/SB 5976/SB 5982/SB 5983)
- Improving the Department of Employment Security WorkSource program;
- Enhancing customized training and job skills programs; (SB 5371)
- Promoting the Department of Employment Security self-employment assistance program; (SB 6289)
- Boosting apprenticeships;
- Creating better access to Life Long Learning Accounts; and (SB 6141)
- Helping military personnel and their spouses connect to the workforce. (SB 5969)
