As the Washington State Senate approaches the policy committee cutoff for the 2012 Legislative Session, Majority Leader Lisa Brown met with members of the news media on Thursday afternoon for her weekly media availability.
Senate passes Resolution to approve redistricting plan for decade ahead 2/1/2012
Olympia, WA – Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown issued the following statement regarding EHCR 4409, the Redistricting Plan:
The Washington State Senate voted today to approve the new Legislative and Congressional boundaries for the next ten years. This reflects the technical changes the Redistricting Commission approved in the weeks following the plan submitted on January 1, 2012.
Senator Brown observes MLK Day from Spokane 1/16/2012
On Monday, for the first time in two decades, Sen. Lisa Brown will not be in the Capitol on Martin Luther King Day.
Although the Legislature is always in session and traditionally works on this state holiday, Brown is spending the day in Spokane to march with others in the community, one year after an attempted bombing of that annual event.
Statement from Sens. McAuliffe, Brown and Murray on Supreme Court education ruling 1/5/2012
OLYMPIA — Today the Supreme Court ruled that the state of Washington is not fulfilling its constitutional duty to fully pay for basic education and said it would monitor the Legislature’s implementation of the decision.

3rd District tele-town hall, first week of regular session 1/5/2012
OLYMPIA – Third district legislators Sen. Lisa Brown, Rep. Timm Ormsby and Rep. Andy Billig will host a tele-town hall the first week of regular session. Spokane area constituents will receive a phone call inviting them to stay on the line to participate in the town hall. Residents who do not automatically receive a call can also dial the toll-free participant number to listen in on the event and ask questions of their elected state officials.

Song of the session: “I Hear Them All” 1/5/2012
When I was budget chair, years ago, a tradition began to pick a song that represents the upcoming legislative session. As I read hundreds of emails and listen to countless people testify it’s clear our budget cuts have already had detrimental effects on Washingtonians. Our duty is to hear them and act in a fiscally and morally responsible way to close the remaining $1.5 billion budget shortfall.
