Sens. Claudia Kauffman, Karen Keiser, Tracey Eide are calling the passage of SB 6240 a victory for businesses and workers in the Green River Valley who have been experiencing anxiety and uncertainty because of the potential for flooding and the lack of surplus flood coverage.
Kauffman bill to give disabled children head start in school pending in education committee 2/3/2010
A bill sponsored by Sen. Claudia Kauffman to ensure that children with disabilities receive early intervention services is pending in the Senate education committee. Senate Bill 6668 expands the state Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program to include children with disabilities.
Kauffman bill to create more affordable housing gets public hearing 1/27/2010
A public hearing was held today in Olympia on a bill sponsored by Sen. Kauffman to facilitate the creation of more affordable housing.
Under SB 6589, the Housing Finance Commission's debt limit would be increased from $6 billion to $7 billion. The legislation requires that $1 billion of outstanding debt be used to implement a workforce housing program to increase opportunities for nonprofit organizations and public agencies to purchase, acquire, build and own real property used for affordable housing if state subsidies are available.

Kauffman bill to reduce dropout rates gathers steam in Senate 1/21/2010
A bill sponsored by Sen. Claudia Kauffman to improve graduation rates has been introduced in the Senate education committee. SB 6403 recognizes the financial cost of dropouts and the need for the development of a collaborative infrastructure at the local, regional, and state level between systems that serve vulnerable students.

The westbound lanes of SR 18 in Auburn will remain closed until Monday at the earliest and potentially into the end of next week because of a serious landslide. Sen. Kauffman represents Auburn and plans to tour the landslide area.

Kauffman calls on Senate committee to protect Green River Valley businesses from catastrophic flood losses 1/13/2010
Sen. Claudia Kauffman testified before the Senate Financial Institutions, Housing & Insurance committee this afternoon in support of a bill that will help Green River Valley businesses address the flood insurance crisis.
Although the federal government, through FEMA, provides subsidized homeowners flood insurance and limited business coverage, many companies are reporting that the private insurance policies, known as surplus lines, have been canceled or cannot be purchased at an affordable cost. There are concerns that flood fears and intense media coverage have exacerbated the problem.
Kauffman to attend grand opening of High Point Neighborhood Center; state dollars helped make community dream reality 11/13/2009
A room in the new $10 million Neighborhood House High Point Neighborhood Center will be named after Sen. Claudia Kauffman, who lived in the community as a small child and helped secure funding for the state-of-the-art building.
“High point is a wonderful, vibrant community,” Kauffman said. “This beautiful center is a testament to the hard work of community partners and residents. This will be a place where people can connect, learn and grow for years to come.”
