Medicaid fraud reform package advances 2/2/2012

OLYMPIA - A package of Medicaid fraud reform bills continues to advance through the Legislature as the Senate Health and Long Term Care Committee has now passed three bills designed to address Medicaid fraud from separate angles to cut waste and recover more taxpayer dollars.

"When it comes to recovering funds lost to Medicaid fraud, this state ranks among the worst in the nation," said Sen. Karen Keiser, D-Kent, chair of the Senate Health & Long Term Care Committee. Keiser is a sponsor on all three pieces of legislation.

Senate committee approves federal health reform implementation 2/1/2012

OLYMPIA - The Senate Health & Long Term Care Committee approved the next step in fully implementing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Wednesday.

The bill, sponsored by committee chair Sen. Karen Keiser, D-Kent, moves Washington forward to meet critical development milestones in 2013 as outlined by the federal health reform bill passed in March 2010.

State Legislators to Unveil Groundbreaking Legislation for Women’s Health 1/6/2012

SEATTLE - Sen. Karen Keiser (D-Kent) and Rep. Eileen Cody (D-West Seattle) will announce new legislation to benefit women's health at a press conference at Town Hall in Seattle on Sunday, January 8. They will be joined by fellow pro-choice lawmakers. Additionally, a woman who was uninsured when she had an abortion will address how this legislation will remedy existing gaps in access to reproductive health care. A health care provider and an American Baptist minister will also discuss how this legislation will address women’s health care needs.

Health care needs exist across Washington 12/15/2011

You should hear the story from Dr. Ned Hammar, a family practice doctor from Okanogan. He drove six hours to Olympia then waited for more than two hours so he could speak to us for nine minutes. They were an important nine minutes.

He shared with us his experiences trying to provide health care in rural Washington and the drastic effect that our budget cuts have already had on his patients.
