I AM proud of the education reforms Washington state has accomplished in recent years — many widely supported by business, teachers, parents and advocacy groups. Each step forward represents collaborative progress that has been tested in the classroom. The research has been done, the laws have been passed. Now, we need to fund the reforms so every child has a high-quality education.

Elementary school lighthouse program focused on STEM signed into law 3/29/2012

OLYMPIA — Legislation signed into law today will expand the state’s science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) lighthouse program into elementary schools.

Senate Bill 6041 also encourages the sharing of best STEM practices with other schools.

In light of recent child gun accidents, awareness raised for need of Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program 3/21/2012

OLYMPIA — In the past few weeks, three children in Washington state have been shot — two of them killed — because the owners of guns didn't lock them up tight. In response, Sen. Rosemary McAuliffe, D—Bothell, introduced Senate Joint Resolution 8020 to promote the use of the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program in preschools, early learning programs, and schools.
