An Update From Olympia – Week Four 2/2/2012
Dear Neighbors,
As we move into the month of February, my fellow 27th District legislators and I are looking forward to meeting you and other neighbors at our Town Hall Meeting. The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 18 at the Lyceum Theater on the Evergreen State University Tacoma campus. If you have comments concerning our district, our county or our state, I encourage you to come to this meeting and let your opinions be heard. After all, the best way to impact your state government is to be a part of it.

Sen. Regala statement of support for marriage equality 1/23/2012
The issue of Marriage Equality or Same Sex marriage is generating a large number of e-mails and phone calls to me this session. I want to make clear the reasons that I have long supported same sex couples having the same rights to marriage as heterosexual couples.
Many who contact me state that this would be redefining marriage. My belief is that what constitutes or has constituted marriage has evolved and changed many times over the centuries.
An update from Olympia – Week One 1/13/2012
Dear Neighbors,
The 2012 legislative session has begun and my colleagues and I were welcomed back to Olympia by the news of the Washington Supreme Court upholding the King County Superior Court ruling that Washington is not sufficiently funding public education. The news of this ruling sends a clear message to lawmakers that we as a legislature must address funding for public education. Yet it comes at a time when the options for balancing the 2011-13 biennial budget include severe cuts to our education system.

On Monday, I will present legislation seeking to abolish the death penalty in Washington state. This is not the first time I have joined this effort, yet my thoughts and opinions on the matter have not changed.
I have had a family member murdered.
Lawmakers taking time to listen in special session 12/13/2011
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
For over two weeks, my colleagues and I have been in Olympia grappling with the governor's request for $2 billion in cuts to the 2011-13 biennial budget. In the best of times, reducing our spending by such a number would be difficult, but added on to over $10 billion in cuts that have been made in recent years, the task becomes enormous. Peoples' lives and livelihoods will be put at risk as a result of the actions we take. Yet we are being asked to take this action in less than 30 days. As stewards of the peoples' safety and well-being, how can we possibly do this?
Regala urges congressional action on Main Street Fairness Act 12/12/2011
Two weeks after Cyber Monday, Sen. Debbie Regala is calling on Washington to join the drive to create a level playing field by enforcing the collection of sales and use tax on remote or online sales.
“By not collecting this tax, Washington retailers are put at a competitive disadvantage,” Regala said. “This hurts our local businesses and it erodes the revenues that fund our public services.”
